Why?
Since The Year Dot
The skin punch procedure has remained largely unchanged since its inception—representing a clear opportunity for innovation.
Despite being a simple and widely used technique for obtaining skin biopsies, the procedure is still inefficient and costly due to the reliance on multiple separate instruments. This is a challenge also experienced by dermatologist and founding partner, Kristine Appel Pallesen
In private clinics, the metal instruments must be sterilized between uses, adding time and operational overhead. In hospital settings, they are often discarded after a single use, contributing to substantial medical waste and increasing procurement costs.
Moreover, current procedures introduces risk: unintended damage to biopsy samples—often caused by tweezers—can compromise sample integrity, leading to inaccurate diagnoses and costly retesting.
With increasing global skin cancer incidence and a push toward efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability in dermatological care, the market is primed for a next-generation solution.
The Solution
SIMPLICITY & COST EFFICIENCY

A Strong Business Case
Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest. That’s the case with the Smart Punch Biopsy Tool.
Over the past 18 months, we’ve been actively developing a response to a well-known problem in dermatological procedures. Through extensive prototyping, testing, and iterative design—including exploring and eliminating multiple alternative concepts—we’ve arrived at a solution with a compelling business case.
With the Smart Punch Solution, hospitals can achieve a direct cost saving of approximately €1.23 / $1.33 per procedure.
In clinics, the improved logistics lead to both direct and indirect savings of around €0.27 / $0.29 per procedure.
Patent Pending
Our solution is currently patent pending, with a full grant expected.
We also plan to file for international protection under the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) in the near future.
In parallel, we are actively testing and refining the product in close collaboration with dermatologists and plastic surgeons to ensure clinical relevance, usability, and real-world performance.
